The title of the play Over the River and Through the Woods reminds you of a song you sing around Thanksgiving and Christmas, bringing back memories of family get-togethers during happy times. The love of family is the theme that runs throughout this warm-hearted comedy. Nick is a single, Italian-American guy from New Jersey. His parents retired and moved to Florida. That doesn’t mean his family isn’t still in Jersey. In fact, he sees both sets of his grandparents every Sunday for dinner. These dinners are governed by the three “F’s” – Family, Faith and Food. This is routine until he has to tell them that he’s been offered a dream job. The job he’s been waiting for—marketing executive—would take him away from his beloved, but annoying, grandparents. He tells them. The news doesn’t sit so well. Thus begins a series of schemes to keep Nick around. How could he betray his family’s love to move to Seattle, for a job, wonder his grandparents? Well, Frank, Aida, Nunzio and Emma do their level best, and that includes bringing to dinner the lovely—and single—Caitlin O’Hare as bait…we won’t give the ending away here.
Todd Campbell directs this star-studded (to us anyway) cast. You last saw Todd on the BACP stage in the hilarious A Tuna Christmas. He has brought together our award-winning Gin Game team of Tom Berenson and Karyn Lee Maio along with Brian Shoop, Barbara Murn, Harley Cartee and Rebekah Biles. We hope you can join us in June. This cast is certain to make you laugh, make you cry and head home to hug your family. Patrons from our Summer 2016 fundraising performances gave high praise to this phenomenal cast saying things such as: “Broadway quality!” “I forgot I was watching a play!” and “One of the best shows I have ever seen.” Please join us in June to enjoy a wonderful show.
