The Broken Arrow Community Playhouse celebrates the coming Christmas season with Robert Lynn’s comedic drama The ReGifters. First produced in Dubuque, Iowa in 2006, it immediately won the New America Comedy Festival Award for Lynn.

The play takes place on Christmas Eve. Loras and Bridget Henshaw, a couple whose marriage has grown cold and distant, receive a gift from friends in Germany. Even after a great deal of inspection, they still have no idea what the gift is! Unable to stir up any Christmas Spirit themselves, and no use or need for this strange present, they pass it on to their acquaintance friends Tom and Mary Mulligan. Tom, an accountant who never stops accounting and Mary, his ambivalent wife who is fed up with the phoniness she sees at Christmastime, look out their windows and judge their neighbor’s Christmas decorations and quarrel about mandatory gift giving. They keep a strict accounting of gifts given and gifts received. The Henshaws get a kick out of watching the Mulligan’s politely try to figure out what this present they have opened is! Once alone with their mysterious gift and with only one couple left on their giving chart, the Cunninghams are soon to be the next recipient of the unwanted gift. Lauren and Jeff have their own problems, with Jeff still tied to his live-in mother’s apron strings and caught between her and his neat-freak wife. Of course, this contentious trio has no idea what to do with the present either, and pass it on once again to a young couple, Kurt and Katie Weiss. The plot thickens when Loras and Bridget hear from their German friends that the gift is priceless, and this begins the mad search to get it back! The ReGifters is a comedy that deals with ordinary people, living ordinary lives. The characters display playfulness, bawdiness, cynicism, and each get a second chance to redeem their situation and in the end learn about friendship, real wealth, and the value of a gift truly given. We hope you will join us this Christmas season for some love and laughter.
