Applications Now Being Accepted for Broken Arrow Citizens Police Academy Class

Class start date: September 5th-  November 21 (skipping one week for Halloween)

Broken Arrow Police Department will host a Citizens Police Academy. This will be an 11-week series of classes that take place once a week, on Tuesday’s from 6:00 PM-9:00 PM. The class is free.

You must be a Broken Arrow resident or work in Broken Arrow to qualify; you also must pass a background check.

The goal of the academy is to educate and provide a better understanding of how a police department functions and operates. Instruction will consist of lecture, demonstrations, tours and hands-on training. Our goal through this instruction is to increase police awareness whereas to dispel any suspicions and misconceptions and to increase police/community rapport through this education process,” class coordinator Lisa Ford said.

Class subjects include: Recruiting, hiring process, training division, traffic overview and driving simulator, use of force, Officer Survival, Special Operations Teams overview, tour of Jail, communications and Police Department, Criminal investigation, victims of Crime advocate, K-9 demo, crisis negotiations team overview, School Resource officers, city legal over view, special investigations presentations. After graduation you may join the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.
