Broken Arrow is the first city in Oklahoma where AT&T will deploy its small cell technology. Small cells are compact devices that can be placed on existing structures, such as utility poles, that bolster network capacity for improved call quality and faster download speeds.

AT&T says small cells will make wireless download speeds of 1 gigabyte possible.

The telecommunications company made the announcement Thursday during a press conference at the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce offices. Installation of the small cells will take place later this year.

“Broken Arrow continues to push itself to be innovative, so being the first city in the State of Oklahoma to get 5G technology is something we can all be proud of,” said Mayor Craig Thurmond. “We’re proud to partner with AT&T on making faster downloads, better mobile calls, and better overall wireless experiences available in Broken Arrow.”
